Handwoven using locally sourced wool, this unique decoration is symbolic piece of the Karakalpak culture and the nomads of the steppe and mountain regions of Central Asia. Yurts have been a distinctive feature of life in Central Asia for at least two and a half thousand years and are still in use today. Uzbek artisan Biybisara Qunnazarova, handweaves this baskurstrip of fabric, that are typically used to decorate the entrance and whose patterns hold symbolism and significance to the family dwelling. The ends of the long fabric strip are finished with small braids.
