Preserving the artisanal heritage of his Wixarika or Huichol culture, Miguel Díaz in Mexico creates this wonderful small sculpture. The bison is crafted from papier mache and covered with tiny glass beads in elaborate patterns. The beads are applied one by one using beeswax, and the designs include the ojo de Dios or 'eye of God', a symbol of protection and blessing.
