Dating back to the Ming Dynasty, the floral motifs found within this decorative bowl are inspired by the legendary phoenix Lok Chan, representing the relationship between China and Java. Indonesia's Gunadi designs this decorative bowl, which is carved from wadang wood and carefully decorated using the batik technique, where a wax resist informs the designs before the application of dyes.
